Decision Summary
On August 9, 2023, the Adjudication Tribunal accepted an admission and found Ruth Evans, Registration No. 19335 (the Respondent), guilty of conduct deserving of sanction under the Registered Nurses Act, 2008, (the Act) subsection 18(c)(i) professional misconduct and 18(c)(v) breach of the Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses in relation to allegation dated August 17, 2022 filed by the Director of Professional Conduct Review on behalf of the College of Nurses Newfoundland and Labrador.
The August 17, 2022, allegation alleged that the Registrant failed to meet the expected standards of practice of a registered nurse in:
- Failing to complete the terms of an Alternative Dispute Resolution Agreement dated May 12, 2022. The Alternative Dispute Resolution Agreement was resolution of Allegations dated June 1, 2021, and August 18, 2021, filed by then Eastern Health alleging 18(c)(ii) professional incompetence, in that the Registrant displayed an inability to employ appropriate assessment practices; failed to communicate significant change in patient condition to the physician and the family; and failed to appropriately document a situation.
- Failing to respond to communications from the regulatory body.
The events giving rise to all allegations occurred during the time the Respondent was employed at Blue Crest Nursing Home, Grand Bank, NL. In a decision dated October3, 2023 the Adjudication Tribunal accepted an Agreed Statement of Facts and an Admission of guilt of conduct deserving of sanction from the Respondent and ordered that the Respondent be reprimanded pursuant to section 27(2)(1) of the Act and that a summary of the decision be published.
