Entry-Level Competencies

Entry-level competencies describe the knowledge, skills, and judgment that nurses must demonstrate when they begin practice. They set the minimum expectations for safe, competent, and ethical care, and are used to guide education, assessment, and registration decisions.

These competencies help ensure that all new nurses are prepared to meet the demands of practice and provide safe care to the public.
