Quality Assurance

The NL College of Nurses’ Quality Assurance approach focuses on promoting safe, competent, and ethical nursing practice. We do this through early identification and proactive management of practice concerns.

As part of the College’s regulatory framework, quality assurance emphasizes prevention and improvement rather than discipline. When concerns about a nurse’s practice are identified, the goal is to address them early—supporting improvements in practice while helping to ensure the public continues to receive safe care.

Applying the QA Process

Quality assurance processes are applied in a structured and consistent way. These may include assessment, remediation, and follow-up. In many cases, employers are the first point of intervention. However, when concerns cannot be addressed in the workplace or require a regulatory response, the College may become involved.

Depending on the situation, concerns may be managed through a collaborative resolution or a more formal review process. This ensures that responses are proportionate, focused on improvement, and aligned with the College’s mandate to protect the public.
