Nurse Practitioner Exam

To become licensed as an NP in Newfoundland and Labrador you must complete a licensure examination before being licensed to practice. The NP examinations approved by the Board are:

  • Family/All-Ages
    Canadian Nurse Practitioner Examination (CNPE)
  • Adult
    American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board’s (AANPCB) Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam
  • Pediatric or Neonatology
    Pediatric NP applicants must hold current registration/licensure in another Canadian province/territory.

Note: If you are currently licensed as an NP elsewhere in Canada the College accepts exams that are approved for licensure in that province/territory.

Overview of Examination Application Process

This section applies to:

  • Newfoundland and Labrador NP graduates
  • Out-of-province NP graduates who have not established registration/licensure as an NP in another Canadian jurisdiction.
  1. Submit the CNPE:F/AA application form and College examination admin fee ($86.25 includes HST) to the College by the application deadline.
  2. To write the CNPE:F/AA outside of Newfoundland and Labrador a list of available writing locations can be found here.
  3. NL Graduates – confirmation of successful program completion will be sent to the College directly from Memorial University Registrar’s Office.
  4. Out-of-province graduates – request official transcript, confirmation of NP program completion from university. Must be sent directly to the College.
  5. Receive email from Meazure Learning to register online for your exam.
  6. Receive registration booking confirmation email from Meazure Learning.
  7. Complete examination via online proctoring.
  8. Notification of examination result will be sent from the College about 4 weeks after the exam date.
