Registration Requirements

Nursing in Newfoundland and Labrador is governed by the Nurses Act, the Nurses Regulations and By-Laws.

Regardless of the type of nursing you wish to practice, there are requirements you must fulfill, along with your application form.

Criminal Record Check

The College regulates all nurses in Newfoundland and Labrador to protect the public by ensuring safe, competent practice. All applicants must provide a Criminal Record Check prior to receiving a licence.

English Language Proficiency

To become licensed to practice nursing in Newfoundland and Labrador you must be proficient in the English language. You can demonstrate English language proficiency through education, registration status, language proficiency testing, or experience.

Exams

Each nursing designation has approved licensure exams. All applicants must pass their respective exam to work as a nurse in NL.

Jurisprudence

Jurisprudence is the legislation and regulations governing the practice of licensed practical nursing in NL. The College strongly encourages all applicants and registrants to review the free Jurisprudence modules available.
