Inactive Status

Nurses who do not hold a current practicing license are considered by the College to be inactive.

There are different categories of Inactive for RNs, RPNs and NPs:

  • Inactive – On Leave
    • You can only complete the Inactive – on leave registration change process during the licensure renewal period.
    • You will be required to enter an anticipated return to practice date.
    • You must complete the licensure reinstatement application process. This includes logging your 24 hours of CCP learning activities, before returning to practice.
    • Note that your 24 hours of CCP learning activities must be within the preceding 12- month period of returning to practice.
  • Inactive – Resigned
    • Complete the Inactive – Resigned declaration process in the College’s member portal.
    • If you wish to return to practice in the province at a future date you will be required to complete the licensure reinstatement process.
  • Inactive – Lapsed
    • If you fail to renew a practicing licence the College will automatically change your status to Inactive – lapsed.
    • If you wish to return to practice in the province at a future date you will be required to complete the licensure reinstatement process.

Currently there is only one category of Inactive for LPNs:

  • Inactive – Lapsed
    • If you fail to renew a practicing licence the College will automatically change your status to Inactive – lapsed.
    • If you wish to return to practice in the province at a future date you will be required to complete the licensure reinstatement process.
