Licensure and Service Fees

The Board of Directors reviews and approves the licensure fees.

Service fees are based on the amount of staff time and resources required.

Licensure and service fees under the legacy LPN and RN Colleges were adopted by the NL College of Nurses. The College has committed to reviewing all fees. College staff review the fees each year to ensure they are fair and reasonable.

All prices include harmonized sales tax (HST).

Here are the fees for 2026-27.

Licensed Practical Nurse

  • Annual licensure fee: $375 (includes professional liability protection)
  • Pro-rated annual licensure fee (December 1 – March 31): $261.05
  • Reinstatement of license: $115 service fee + annual licensure fee
  • Initial application: $231.04
  • Assessment of work responsibility: $231.04
  • Exam fee: $690
  • Exam late fee: $747.50
  • Exam rescoring fee: $81.42
  • Verification: $86.63
  • Practicing without a licence: $100 per day worked to a maximum of $1,000.00.

Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner

  • Annual licensure fee: $412.47 (does not include professional liability protection)
  • Pro-rated annual licensure fee (January 1 – March 31): $127.30 (does not include professional liability protection)
  • Reinstatement of license: $46 service fee + annual licensure fee (does not include professional liability protection)
  • RN Professional Liability Protection Core Services: $78.20 (paid directly to CNPS)
  • NP Professional Liability Protection Core Services: $183.43 (paid directly to CNPS)
  • Initial application: $172.50
  • RN Exam: paid directly to NCSBN
  • NP Family All Ages Exam (CNPE): $887.50 (paid directly to YAS)
  • NP Exam Assessment fee: $86.25
  • NP Exam retake assessment: $57.50
  • Lapsed member confirmation of eligibility to register: $17.25
  • Lapsed member confirmation of practice hours: $23.00
  • Verification: $28.75
  • Practicing without a licence: $100 per day worked to a maximum of $1,000.00.

Registered Psychiatric Nurse

  • Annual Licensure Fee $402.47 (does not include professional liability protection)
  • Pro-rated annual licensure fee (January 1 – March 31): $117.30 (does not include professional liability protection)
  • Reinstatement of license: $46 service fee + annual licensure fee (does not include professional liability protection)

Refund Policy Statement

As a self-regulated profession, the College is required to meet its legislated requirements under the Nurses Act. These requirements involve the administration of several programs on an annual and ongoing basis. The programs include, but are not limited to, annual licensure renewal, a professional conduct review process and the continuing competency program. The costs of these programs are covered by licensure/membership fees.

Once the effective date for a practicing or temporary licence has passed, a refund will not be provided. Where a licence is suspended or a termination of registration (de-registered), no refund will be provided.

Application and other service fees, no refund will be provided. Also, applicants whose file is closed by the College due to inactivity or expired application, no refund will be provided.
