Continuing Competency Program

The Continuing Competency Program is a regulatory requirement that supports ongoing competence throughout a nurse’s career. It ensures nurses regularly:

  • reflect on their practice
  • identify learning needs
  • maintain the knowledge and skills required to provide safe, competent, and ethical care

While the overall purpose of the program is consistent across the profession, specific requirements and processes vary slightly depending on whether a nurse is an RN, NP, or LPN to reflect differences in roles and scope of practice.
