Re-entry and SPEPP
Nurses in Newfoundland and Labrador are legally required to be licensed with the College. One of the ways nurses remain competent is keeping a minimum amount of practice hours. There are instances when nurses will have gaps in their practice hours or have run out of hours. This information details the required steps to re-enter practice.
Registrants who no longer meet the currency of practice hours requirement for renewal of an RN or LPN practising license, may regain their eligibility by completing one of the following:

Supervised Practice Experience Partnership Program (SPEPP)
SPEPP is a regulatory program that is employment focused and available to individuals seeking re-licensure as an LPN, RN or NP with the College. To be eligible for the program individuals must:
- Presently or previously been registered/licensed as a nurse with the College or another Canadian regulatory body.
- Have passed the licensure exam – LPN (CPNRE) or RN (NCLEX)
- Registration status must be in good standing.
- LPNs and RNs must have some practice hours within the last 10 years.
- NPs must have some NP practice hours within the last 6 years.
- Practice hours not on file with the College must be submitted and verified.
Note: SPEPP is not available for RPNs currently.
